About the Opportunity
Looking for an experienced qualified Director of Marketing/Business Development to work closely with managers and customers to determine marketing direction, guidance and support. This position requires a broad range of skills that extend from strategic innovation to meet emerging market needs to tactical execution of the details of new product launches and business execution. The Director of Marketing/Business Development is the focal point for strategic planning of products, balancing business and customer needs with technical feasibility and time to market. This position will be responsible for developing personal understanding of customer needs in the market and continually seeking customer involvement and feedback to ensure new product solutions are commercially viable and provide competitive advantage.

Specifically
- Key business leader that envisions and executes plans that maximize the economic realization of the product line’s potential
- Manages the entire product line life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
- Helps to define product and solution requirements based on customer, market and business objectives.
- Deliverables include market assessments, competitive assessments, business cases, product launch plans, value stories, win/loss analyses, end-of-life plans, etc.
- Leads by influence across functions required to implement or support product line objectives
- Communicates effectively across internal functions, geographies and levels to win and sustain support for product line priorities
- Works closely with Product Development to ensure proper understanding, allocation and implementation of product requirements through successful product launch.
- Works closely with Marketing Communications to properly position products and solutions, develop supporting materials and drive targeted customer awareness.
- Works closely with Sales to refine product value stories and messaging, understand new Customer requests and ensure commercial success.
- Maintains understanding of market and competitive developments and executes tactical and strategic actions to position the product line for both near term and long term success
- Works closely with Finance, Sales and Production to understand selling price, product costs and product margins and takes actions accordingly to improve pricing, value selling capability, product costs, etc. to meet business objectives
- Champions and advocates the product line and the company in customer, industry and internal forums
- Analyzes potential partner relationships for the product, including support of strategic make/buy decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS / FUNCTIONAL EXPERTISE
- Exceptionally strong communicator who conveys credibility, trustworthiness and passion to a wide variety of audiences from the C-suite to industry peers to internal personnel.
- Strong knowledge of advanced IP networking environments.
- Demonstrates excellent understanding and working knowledge of high technology product definition, development and commercialization with particular expertise in software/hardware products required. Works extremely well with customers to understand their stated and unmet needs.
- Demonstrates technical savvy in asking the right questions and finding the best approach to innovation and technical challenges. Works extremely well with product architects in shaping the product requirements to optimize capability, development cost, recurring cost and time to market.
- Demonstrates business savvy in defining and positioning product line to take advantage of opportunities and compete effectively in the market
- Demonstrates best practices in roles, tools, and processes and is capable and willing to close gaps that exist.
- Driven success-oriented team player who thrives in a fast-paced, fast-changing entrepreneurial environment
- Skills required to perform as external product evangelist. Possess excellent negotiating skills.
EXPERIENCE
- 7+ years of software product management, product development and marketing experience, with at least 3 – 4 years of strategic business development experience in a technology driven business.
- Experience with video and/or security products desired.
EDUCATION
- A degree in marketing or business admin or equivalent experience required.
- Masters in Marketing or MBA desired
