Evidence Viewing FAQ: For District Attorneys
1 Introduction
Digital Safety Technologies Digital Patroller 2 can produce evidence two ways. Once the evidence has been transferred to the removable media, it CANNOT be altered. Any editing of the video must occur during the authoring process by the agency producing the video.
· Export to DVD Author – The video is contained on a standard DVD that is playable in any commercially available DVD player. It can be tailored to display any available Metadata such as Date/Time, GPS location, Officer Name, Vehicle speed, etc. Or any of the Metadata can be removed. The amount of information displayed MUST be defined at the time the DVD is created.
· Export with Viewer -- This method creates a copy of the video evidence along with self contained viewing software called DPView Lite, on any removable media. (CDROM, DVD, USB thumb drive). This will enable the user to view the video on any Windows XP or Vista workstation.
Note: **DA’s requesting files from a PD/Sheriff Office should ask the evidence to be copied in one of 2 formats based on your viewing/editing needs along with the specific Metadata they would like to be displayed.

2 Troubleshooting
2.1 DVD playing
· I can’t hear the rear microphone
o The backseat microphone can be heard by selecting 2nd audio channel under the DVD player’s Audio options menu.
· I want to remove the officer’s name from displaying on the video screen.
o Any Metadata that is captured with the video can be added or removed from the DVD. This MUST be done during the DVD authoring process by the agency that is burning the DVD.
2.2 DPView Lite
· The viewer screen is black or looks like a screen saver.
o The user must have admin privileges to allow the correct video codex to be installed.
· The video is very jumpy, and the audio breaks up.
o Running IView lite from a DVD/CDROM will not produce a smooth video. A DVD/CDROM drive cannot read data fast enough for 2 video streams. It is recommended to create a temporary folder on the workstation and copy the contents of the DVD/CDROM to that folder and run the viewer from there.
· I don’t see the time/date, GPS coordinates, vehicles speed or other Metadata on the screen.
o Click on the Options button on the tool bar. Select the checkbox of the metadata you want to see in the pop-up Options box.
· I can’t hear the any audio.
o To enable the 1st wireless microphone’s audio channel, right click on the video of the front camera. Select the Audio On from the dialog box.
o To enable the rear seat microphone audio channel, right click on the video of the rear camera. Select the Audio On from the dialog box.
· How do I know if the video has been altered?
o Right click on the video frame of camera one and select “Verify” from the dialog box. It will return a pop-up box with verification of the file integrity.
